SIOUX FALLS, SD – Lost & Found Executive Director Erik Muckey has been awarded the prestigious Sands Family Social Venturing Fellowship from the Holmes Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
Muckey joins seven Carlson MBA students in the Fellowship cohort. Established in 2013, the Sands Fellowship awards $5,000 to current Carlson MBA students to pursue social ventures with tangible impact in the Twin Cities metro area.

Through the $5,000 investment, Muckey will identify and seek collaborating partners in the Twin Cities metro area to expand L&F programs into Minnesota by 2021. Today, Lost & Found offers student engagement programming, campus counseling center support services, and training and capacity building tools for campus and community leaders seeking to improve personal and community resilience. Lost & Found currently serves 3 campuses in eastern South Dakota, but expansion to other campus communities in the northern Plains has become a key focus for the organization.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to connect the L&F network of resources to the Twin Cities metro area and greater Minnesota,” says Muckey. “While the focus of the Sands Fellowship will be to seek an expanded footprint into the Twin Cities and the state of Minnesota, the true objective is building a sustainable future for Lost & Found and the work of our many partners in mental health and suicide prevention. Lost & Found becomes better at connecting people and communities to needed resources when we network and partner with innovators and thought leaders in mental health. This Fellowship offers us an opportunity to do just that: find and partner with those ‘movers and shakers’ here in Minnesota.”
During his time as a 2019 Sands Fellow, Muckey will develop partnership and program strategies specific to the Twin Cities metro area and greater Minnesota, while also integrating these efforts into current L&F offerings in South Dakota. Additional funding may be offered to L&F as Muckey advances his work through MBA entrepreneurship curriculum at the Carlson School of Management.

ABOUT THE SANDS FAMILY SOCIAL VENTURING FELLOWSHIP
Established in 2013 by University of Minnesota graduates Bill and Susan Sands, the Sands Family Social Venturing Fellowship awards initial $5,000 investments to Carlson School of Management MBA students to pursue social ventures with tangible impact in the Twin Cities. Since 2013, 32 Sands Fellows have either partnered with existing organizations or launched new ventures that address important societal issues in the Twin Cities.

The Lost & Found Association is a Sioux Falls, SD-based 501c3 organization that builds resilient communities and people with compassion, understanding, and inclusion. Through student-led resiliency programs, campus counseling research support, and capacity building efforts, Lost & Found strives to end suicide for young adults in the United States.
